UST MEDICINE freshmen emerged as champions in the Philippine Society of Physiology (PSP) Inter-Medical School Quiz held on June 25 via Zoom.
The trio of Kharam Molbog, Joven Francis Morales and Mariel Santos bested 32 competing teams from 16 medicine schools from all over the country.
“From the day we were told that we’d be participating, we had exactly 18 days to prepare, and that certainly wasn’t enough time to study the very broad coverage of physiology. But thankfully, we’ve been studying physiology for the better part of the last year, so everything was still kind of fresh in our minds,” team leader Molbog told the Varsitarian.
Finishing second and third were teams from St. Luke’s Medical Center College of Medicine and University of the Philippines College of Medicine, respectively.
The second team from UST, composed of Angelica Joy Cabral, Matthew Louis Banting and Andrei Jane Gavino, finished fourth.
The UST teams were mentored by Dr. Gerald Alcid with the help of other doctors from the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery who conducted review sessions for the participants.
The winning team received a cash prize of P10,000 while the second and third placers received P3,000 and P2,000, respectively.
The Inter-Medical School Physiology Quiz is an annual event hosted by the PSP. It is open tofirst-year medical students.
