THE OPENING of classes for the second term of Academic Year (AY) 2021-2022 has been moved to Jan. 25 in light of the increasing Covid-19 cases in the country, the Office of the Secretary General announced on Saturday.
Classes were supposed to open on Jan. 18.
Office work and classes in all levels from Jan. 10 to 15 were also suspended “to allow our University staff and students to focus on their health, wellness and other personal needs and those of their families,” UST Secretary General Fr. Louie Coronel, O.P. said in a memorandum.
With the deferment of the start of the second term, the opening of the special term of AY 2021-2022 was also pushed back a week, from June 6 to June 13.
“The University empathizes with its staff, students and their families who may be directly or indirectly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic at this time. We encourage everyone to utilize the available online, spiritual, medical and psychological services of the University to help us get through these very difficult times,” Coronel said.
Coronel urged Thomasians to accomplish or update their health statuses and Covid-19 vaccination records in the Thomasian Online Medical Services and Support (ThOMedSS) website.
“Through this, the University will have an accurate picture of the health status of the Thomasian community, render the needed support services and use the data in decision-making,” he said.
The country reported an all-time high of 26,458 new Covid-19 cases on Jan. 8, alongside a positivity rate of 43.7 percent out of 77,004 tests conducted, also a record.
