THOMASIAN Cardinal Jose Advincula will be installed as the 33rd archbishop of the Archdiocese of Manila on June 24, the same day as Manila’s 450th founding anniversary, the archdiocese has announced.

The installation will take place during a Eucharistic celebration at Manila Cathedral at 9 a.m. on June 24.

“The rite will include the solemn liturgical reception of Cardinal Advincula, the reading of the Apostolic Letter from Pope Francis, the seating at the cathedra and the renewal of the priestly promises of the clergy of Manila,” the Manila archdiocese said.

“Cardinal Advincula will deliver the homily, his first preaching as Archbishop of Manila,” it added.

The celebration will coincide with the Solemnity of the Birth of St. John the Baptist and the 450th founding anniversary of Manila and its first parish, now the Manila Cathedral.

The rites will be streamed live on the Facebook pages and Youtube channels of the Archdiocesan Office of Communications, TV Maria, Radio Veritas, Manila Cathedral and all the parishes of the Archdiocese of Manila.

The 68-year-old cardinal, who had been archbishop of Capiz, was appointed Manila archbishop by Pope Francis on March 25. Advincula will succeed Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, who has been serving as prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples in the Vatican since February 2020.

He will oversee nine suffragans: the dioceses of Pasig, Cubao, Parañaque, Caloocan, Novaliches, Antipolo, Imus, Malolos and San Pablo.

In October 2020, the Pope named Advincula as the ninth cardinal from the Philippines.
