UST priests among new members of Dominican provincial council

FOUR UST priests were named to the new provincial council of the Dominican Province of the Philippines in rites at Santo Domingo Church in Quezon City last Feb. 2.

UST Secretary General Fr. Jesus Miranda, O.P., UST-Legazpi Rector and President Fr.  Ernesto Arceo, O.P., UST-Legazpi Vice President for Religious Affairs Fr. Felix Legaspi III, O.P. and Fr. Stephen Redillas, O.P. of the UST Ecclesiastical Faculty of Philosophy were appointed to the provincial council and will serve until 2025.  

According to the rules of the Dominican order, the provincial council “provides consent or advice to the [prior] provincial during regular meetings throughout the year.”

Another UST priest, former UST vice rector for religious affairs Fr. Filemon de la Cruz, Jr., O.P., was installed as the 13th prior provincial of the Dominican Province of the Philippines last Feb. 2. He replaced Fr. Napoleon Sipalay, O.P.

Former UST Rector Fr. Rolando de la Rosa, O.P. was named director of the Institute of Preaching.

Fr. Louie Coronel, O.P. and Fr. Wenifredo Padilla III, O.P. of the UST Faculty of Sacred Theology were appointed promoters of evangelization and theological reflection, respectively.

Members of the provincial council are elected by the regent of studies, socius or assistant of the prior provincial, and the former prior provincial. Ma. Alena O. Castillo and Sophia T. Sadang
