UST will continue to utilize its “enriched virtual mode” of instruction in the second term of Academic Year (AY) 2020-2021, the Office of the Secretary General announced on Thursday.

The mode of instruction makes use of synchronous and asynchronous learning strategies using the UST Cloud Campus.

The second term will begin on Jan. 21, 2021 and will last until the first week of June.

The first term ends on Dec. 18.

In the advisory, the University also said that protocols on the resumption of limited in-campus classes would be announced once government regulations were released.

In an email sent to the Varsitarian on Dec. 3, Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Cheryl Peralta said her office had prepared a proposal for “limited face-to-face classes once government regulations allow it.”

“However, we have yet to present this to the policy-making bodies of the University,” she specified.

In a Laging Handa briefing on Dec. 3, the chief implementer of the country’s National Action Plan vs Covid-19, Carlito Galvez Jr. said the government specifically preferred medical schools to resume physical classes to give relief to the country’s healthcare system.

Colleges and universities that will conduct face-to-face classes must undergo retrofitting and inspection by authorities to ensure adherence to health protocols, Galvez said.

President Rodrigo Duterte approved on Dec. 14 a government-monitored dry run for face-to-face classes in areas at low risk of Covid-19. It will be held from Jan. 11 to 23, 2021 at select schools.
