THREE accountancy students were hailed as grand winners of the 2020 Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Simulation Competition Philippines held last Nov. 20 via Zoom.
The team, composed of first-timers John Arden Oabel, Lian Mae Sulit and Rich Anne Magsombol, bagged the championship after netting the highest company valuation and cumulative net income among participants.
The contest made use of Systems, Applications, Products (SAP) software, a type of ERP system, through which the participants managed their own virtual companies and developed solutions and strategies for business and market simulations.
The game consisted of three rounds, with each round equivalent to 20-day simulations focusing on business aspects such as maintaining sales prices and marketing expenses, inventory management and sales forecasting.
Finishing in second and third place were Asia Pacific College and the University of Cordillera, respectively.
“We were only given a short notice to prepare and probably were even the last ones to register for the competition. It was our first time — both playing the simulation game and joining the competition, but that did not deter us from maximizing the little time we were given,” Sulit told the Varsitarian.
Rosalina Erece, the team’s coach, said they initially decided not to register due to “connectivity issues.”
The annual simulation competition was organized by SAP University Alliance and facilitated by Victoria University in Melbourne, Australia. The event was hosted by SAP University Council Philippines.
The UST team will compete against students from different countries in the manufacturing game of the SAP ERP Simulation Competition on Dec. 2.
It will be reinforced with the additions of accountancy juniors Rovi Vitug and Ephraim Salvador.
